  • Lake of the Woods is the second largest freshwater lake in Ontario. It contains more than 14,000 islands and almost 65,000 miles of shoreline. At the top of the lake is Kenora, the second largest city in northwestern Ontario. Kenora has something to offer everyone no matter what the season. * MS Kenora, the MS Kenora sails three times a day from Mother's Day to Labor Day. Each tour is two hours and local attractions are pointed out along the way. * Blue Heron Gift Shop, located at the old fish market, the Blue Heron is the most popular gift shop in the area. * Golden Eagle Casino, open Wednesday through Sunday year round. Features table games and bingo. * Heritage Townscape Murals, the mural are located on several buildings in Kenora. There are 18 murals in various locations. Walking tours are available. * Lake of the Woods Museum, travel through Kenora's rich history on a self-guided museum tour. Summer hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, winter hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. * Huskey the Muskie, Overlooking Kenora Bay from McLeod Park standing 40 feet tall, is the two-and-one-half ton structure constructed in 1967 by the Chamber of Commerce. * Mather Walls House, built in 1889 by John Mather as a family home, the Mather Walls House is now owned by the Ontario Heritage Foundation and is a glimpse into the past. Guided or self-guided tours are available as well as English style teas. * Rushing River Provincial Park, Located 20 minutes eat of Kenora; Rushing River Park is well worth the trip. Featuring beach areas and rapids. Rushing River is open from the May long weekend until mid-September. * Vernon Nature Trails, featuring six different trails of varying length and difficulty. Maps of the trail systems are available at the MNR office or the tourist information office. * Golf courses, golfers can choose from two 18-hole courses in the Kenora area. Kenora Golf & Country Club located in Kenora and Beauty Bay Golf Course 20 minutes from Kenora. There are also three mini-courses in the area. * Parks and beaches, Kenora features a five-beach area with picnic facilities as well as three parks also with picnic areas. * Aerial Tours, from the docks on Kenora's Harborfront take a 20-minute aerial tour of Kenora. Advance reservations are required. * Boat Rentals are available in the area. * Fishing and Ice Fishing, Lake of the Woods has many opportunities for the angler. To explore the possibilities contact Kenora Tourism. * Snowmobiling, Kenora has an abundance of groomed snowmobile trails. These trails are part of the Trans Ontario Provincial Trail systems and link up with other trails in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Trails also extend into the United States. * Skiing, Kenora offers superb cross-country skiing as well as Mount Evergreen ski hill.
